Only white, beige or cream jodhpurs are allowed
Hats to current standards must be worn. For both skull caps and riding hats, standards are PAS015, EN1384, SNELL2001 with BSI kitemark or ASTM F1163 with SEI - this should be on a tag inside the hat. Any hat approved by the Pony Club meets our requirements. Skull caps must have a cover which is black, brown or navy blue. Safety harnesses MUST be correctly fastened while riders are mounted.
Gloves must be worn.
Boots must be black or brown and may be long boots or jodhpur boots. Half chaps are not allowed but leather gaiters are permitted so long as they are the same colour as the jodhpur boots.
Body protectors may be worn.
Spurs are allowed except for Under 12s.
Whips may be carried.
What to Wear - Horses/Ponies
We recommend using a plain numnah or saddlecloth - white if possible. It just looks better!
Snaffle bridles only are permitted. Any of the following snaffle bits are acceptable : mullen mouth, jointed, French link with any of the following rings : loose ring, eggbut, D-ring, fulmar and hanging cheek. NO gag bits of any sort!
Horses and ponies must warm up in the same bit that they will use for competition.
Nosebands may be plain cavesson, flash, dropped or grakle.
Martingales, draw reins and running reins of any sort are not allowed.
Boots/bandages are allowed while warming up only - it is your own responsibility to make sure you remove them before competing.
What to Do
Allow plenty of time to check in with us before you warm up.
Tests may be called for all levels until the finals.
Horses and ponies must be warmed up only by the rider who is competing.
Remember you must enter the arena to start your test within 45 seconds of the horn/bell being rung.
Practise your salutes - make sure you hold the whip in the other hand while you do it! Otherwise you may receive penalties for an error of test!
Avail of the opportunity to have a chat with the Master Judge after your class. She knows her stuff and will be able to give you valuable advice on how to improve your riding on the flat.
Other Notes
No stallions!
No horse/pony or rider may have competed at Medium level or above OR Two Star Eventing or above (Horse classes only, Pony Two Star is ok)
Obey the instructions given to you by call-up and safety stewards on the day.
The judge's decision is final but ask us to recheck your scores if you end up scoring way less than you expected. We're only human and mistakes may be made!
Don't forget your passport - we may have to check them on the day.
Good Luck and we hope you enjoy the competition.
